Gregg Moreland had to play through the pressure against one of Ralph Tasker’s Hobbs teams in 1980 as a senior at Monterey.
Tasker’s use of the full-court press — a high-pressure style ahead of its time that yielded a coaching record of 1,122-291 and 11 state titles — stayed with Moreland as he eventually went on to coach at Palo Duro, Borger and currently, Lamesa.
Lamesa, which does not start a player taller than 5-foot-11, returns all of its starters from a 21-10 team last year that was three points away from the Class 4A regional semifinals.
