LITTLEFIELD — When the outright district championship is on the line, every yard seems twice as long, every mistake twice as crucial and every play the most important.
For 3 1/2 quarters Friday night, Amarillo River Road and Littlefield fought tooth and nail for every one of those yards, essentially to a draw. And just when it looked as though River Road had finally overcame its mistakes and made the plays necessary to secure its first district title in more than 20 years, Littlefield came up with its own game-winning drive.
